THE 2015/2016 ACTCO FESTIVAL RESULTS


Richmond Hill, Ont. (April 18th, 2016)The Curtain Club Theatre is proud to announce that our theatre received 16 nominations and 7 awards at the 2015/2016 ACTCO Festival. Details are as follows:

Adjudicator Award #1 – OUTSTANDING ACTING ENSEMBLE:

Nomination and WIN for the cast of The Drowning Girls, by Beth Graham, Charlie Tomlinson and Daniela Vlaskalic. (Citation “a trio of very powerful actors in a very powerful story.  A tour de force which would be lacking without the sum of its’ parts”.)

Adjudicator Award #2 – PROPERTIES:

Nomination and WIN for Darlene DeCaire and Bill Corcoran (Set Dressing) for Wait Until Dark, by Frederick Knott.  (Citation “detailed and devoted to hyper realism and period”.)

Adjudicator Award #3 – PRODUCTION DESIGN

Nomination for Jo Ann Warren and Sharon Dykstra for Wait Until Dark, by Frederick Knott.

Nomination and WIN for Steve Hetherington and Joan Burrows for The Drowning Girls, by Beth Graham, Charlie Tomlinson and Daniela Vlaskalic.
(Citation “an overall production design representing the work of many individuals to create a singular impression”.)

Adjudicator Award #4 – COHESIVE AND COMPREHENSIVE REALIZATION OF THE DIRECTOR’S VISION

Nomination for The Company of Wait Until Dark, by Frederick Knott.

BEST COSTUME DESIGN   Nomination for Amanda Eason & Alice Torrance for The Drowning Girls, by Beth Graham, Charlie Tomlinson and Daniela Vlaskalic

Nomination and WIN for Bill Corcoran for Wait Until Dark, by Frederick Knott.
(Citation “complete, well-proportioned and devoted to detail rendering of a basement apartment in New York City in 1967”)

BEST LIGHTING DESIGN

Nomination for Mark Hayward for The Drowning Girls, by Beth Graham, Charlie Tomlinson and Daniela Vlaskalic.

Nomination and WIN for Mary Jane Boon for Wait Until Dark, by Frederick Knott.
 (Citation: “subtle, well thought out and extremely realistic states in a play where the lighting is a character unto itself”)

BEST PERFORMANCE BY A FEMALE IN A LEADING ROLE

Nomination for Tamara Van Bakel as Susy Hendrix in Wait Until Dark, by Frederick Knott.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY A MALE IN A LEADING ROLE

Nomination for Cam Lund as Mike Talman in Wait Until Dark, by Frederick Knott.

BEST DIRECTION

Nomination for Sharon Dykstra for Wait Until Dark, by Frederick Knott.

Nomination and WIN for Joan Burrows for The Drowning Girls, by Beth Graham, Charlie Tomlinson and Daniela Vlaskalic.
(Citation “a delicate touch in staging and directing a sometimes disturbing play”)

BEST PRESENTATION OF A DRAMA

Nomination and WIN for The Drowning Girls, by Beth Graham, Charlie Tomlinson and Daniela Vlaskalic. Producer Steve Hetherington.  (Citation “a riveting production of a difficult play, riddled with sometimes disturbing imagery and themes”.)
